It's no secret that superhero movies are everywhere. With three shared universes currently duking it out for box office supremacy, movie fans can't go more than a month or so before the debut of another major blockbuster. One franchise that seems to breaking the mold is Deadpool, which made history with its huge box office and critical performance, despite an R-Rating and unorthodox character. Deadpool 2 is set to arrive in just a matter of days, and anticipation is at an all time high for Ryan Reynolds to return to Deadpool's signature red suit. But it turns out the suit is not so fun to actually wear. Reynolds recently described it, in his typical comedic voice, saying:
Well, it's like a big, red body condom but yeah, sure, call it a suit. Whatever you want. It's just like a team of people to get that thing on. I'm always just so terrified I'll like throw up in the mask or something, you know... there's no space in that thing, at all. When I put it on, I can actually taste my own genitals. It's disgusting.
While Ryan Reynolds is an action/comedy champion wearing Wade Wilson's signature red suit, the experience doesn't exactly sound pleasant. The costume clings to all of Reynolds' sizable muscles, resulting in a thoroughly uncomfortable time. Luckily he manages to grit and bear it, and provide hilarious and thrilling scenes in spaces.
Ryan Reynolds' comments about his Deadpool costume come from his recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show. The actor/producer was largely there to help market Deadpool 2, but it wasn't all commercial and high fives. Reynolds got real about some of the downsides of his superhero career, especially the sorry state of his super genitals.
This isn't the first time that comic book actors have gotten real about the uncomfortability of their signature costumes. In fact, many of the complains come from 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise. Olivia Munn revealed it took a team of costumers and lubricant to slip her into Psyclocke's costume in X-Men: Apocalypse, while Jennifer Lawrence has been open about how grueling Mystique's blue makeup is. Elizabeth Olsen recently mentioned her disdain for Scarlet Witch's cleavage in the MCU as well.
It's too bad that Ryan Reynolds has such a hard time with the Deadpool suit, because he presumably spends a great deal of time in it. In addition to filming his roles in both the original film and the highly anticipated sequel, there's also a fair amount of additional marketing material and videos filmed ahead of each installment's release. While Reynolds uses body doubles whenever possible, the guy is gonna be waring the Deadpool suit for years to come.
