Bohemian Rhapsody's Blu-ray And DVD Release Will Have The Complete Live Aid Performance
Last fall's Bohemian Rhapsody covered a lot of big moments in Queen's history, and the capper to it all was the band reuniting for the Live Aid concert, which resulted in one of the most iconic music performances of all time. Bohemian Rhapsody is wrapping up its time in theaters, but it turns out we're only weeks away from the biopic arriving on home media, and among the many bonus features that will be attached is the complete Live Aid sequence.
Bohemian Rhapsody clocked at 134 minutes, which is a solid runtime for a drama like this. In real life, the Live Aid performance lasted approximately 22 minutes, and remarkably, Bohemian Rhapsody showed 14 minutes of its recreation. But the fun didn't stop there, as Rami Malek, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy and Joe Mazzello were filmed performing all of Queen's portion of Live Aid, and for those of you who pick up the Blu-ray/DVD of the biopic, you'll be able to watch it uninterrupted. The full version of the Live Aid performance will include the songs "Crazy Little Songs Called Love" and "We Will Rock You."
Seeing this "collective experience" unfold in its entirety is reason enough for Bohemian Rhapsody fans to check out the biopic in the comfort of their own home, but that's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. Among the other special features that one can watch are "Recreating Live Aid," "Rami Malek: Becoming Freddie" and "The Look and Sound of Queen." Getting to see behind-the-scenes look into the making of the movie is one of the primary reasons to buy a movie for your collection, and thankfully, Bohemian Rhapsody isn't skimping in that area.
Despite its troubled production, which included director Bryan Singer being replaced in the middle of principal photography by Dexter Fletcher, and overall mixed reaction from critics, Bohemian Rhapsody has done incredibly well for itself over the last couple months. It's collected over $702 million worldwide, making it the most commercially successful musical biopic domestically and the ninth highest-grossing movie of 2018.
Bohemian Rhapsody has also gathered a fair amount of accolades, including two Golden Globe nominations: Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Actor - Motion Picture Drama for Rami Malek. We'll find out whether it wins one or both of those awards this coming Sunday, but if Bohemian Rhapsody goes on to earn Academy Awards recognition, those of you who haven't seen the movie yet will have some time to watch it at home before that ceremony airs.
You can pick up Bohemian Rhapsody on Digital HD starting January 22, and the Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD copies will hit shelves on February 12. As for what movies will be hitting theaters over the next 12 months, you can find release date information in our handy guide.
