Life Of The Party Trailer: Watch Melissa McCarthy Reunite With Bridesmaids Maya Rudolph
The last time Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph teamed up together was in the critically and commercially successful (and Golden Globe-nominated) 2011 movie Bridesmaids, and since then the two have expanded their comedy careers in fun and imaginative ways, both on the big and small screens. But for those of you who've been wanting to see the two actresses work together again, your wish will soon be granted, as Rudolph will be appearing in the McCarthy-led Life of the Party later this year. Now you can get your first look at the comedy in the trailer below.
Although Maya Rudolph's Christine is one of the main supporting characters in Life of the Party, this is Melissa McCarthy's movie, and the comedy's first trailer makes that immediately clear. As is traditional for the evening, McCarthy's Deanna is winding down by brushing her teeth when suddenly she has an epiphany and decides to toss out all of the objects belonging to her husband, Dan, who recently dumped her. Stacking everything on top of his lounge chair is easy enough, and one would think that lighting everything on fire would be cathartic for Deanna. Unfortunately, rather than everything slowly burning, it all goes up in a quick burst, knocking her off her feet. It just goes to show that you shouldn't let your guard down when playing with fire, kids.
From there, we learn Life of the Party's story, which will see Deanna attending the same college where her daughter is currently going, relishing the fun and freedom that the campus experience provides. Cue hijinks, age jokes and a lot of alcoholic beverages being consumed. While Deanna will primarily be spending time with her daughter, their classmates and sorority sisters, she will be checking in with Christine, who gets a kick in this trailer of how Deanna had sex at the library. Unfortunately, Christine's husband, Frank, doesn't quite understand what's going on when Christine passes along that information. Get it together, Frank! Life of the Party's cast also includes Molly Gordon, Gillian Jacobs, Jacki Weaver, Julia Bowen, Matt Walsh, Stephen Root and more.
Life of the Party hits theaters on May 11, with its competition that opening weekend include Breaking In and Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot. Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph will also be together again for The Happytime Murders.
