Domhnall Gleeson Is Super Paranoid To Even Talk About Star Wars Episode IX Right Now

While the rest of us can't wait to find out what happens in Star Wars Episode IX, Gleeson already knows all the answers, which has him worried he might accidentally spill the beans before the movie's release next year. I made the terrible mistake of reading the script, so I know everything. Yeah and I was saying early on -- and I may have said it to you before -- but the nightmare is falling asleep on public transport. I think I said it to you before. The nightmare is you wake up on a plane and someone's dictating. You wake up and your mouth is shaping words, you wake up and you're like, 'Skywalker did this.' And then you realize you don't know how long you've been speaking, and there's like a kid filming, there's somebody writing down. And because you're in the air, you say 'We need to have a talk before we land, I can access my bank account.'
In many cases, actors aren't even allowed to read the entire script for a movie as big as Star Wars Episode IX. However, Domhnall Gleeson reveals to the Happy Sad Confused Podcast that he has, in fact, read the entire script for the new film. This means that he knows every spoilery detail about the plot, but it also means the odds are greater that he might accidentally spill something. His personal fear appears to be talking in his sleep when surrounded by strangers, which is not the sort of thing most people would worry about first, but this is far from a normal situation.
And Domhnall Gleeson understands just how important every word he chooses to use will be from now until December of 2019 because people are going to overanalyze everything he has to say. Last night at the premiere of The Little Stranger, somebody asked me about Star Wars [Episode IX] and I used the word 'epic.' And that became, the guy was telling me that basically the only thing that has been reported today from the screening of Little Stranger last night was the fact that 'idiot' Gleeson described Star Wars as 'epic.' I thought, if there's a word you can use to describe every Star Wars movie, it's epic, so I think I'm in safe territory there... So, it's hard to describe the film.
There is no such thing as "safe territory" when you're talking about one of the biggest movies in recent memory. The new Star Wars episodes have been some of the highest grossing movies ever made, and whether you liked it or not, the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, potentially changes the Star Wars universe in a big way, and thus it's difficult to guess what sort of movie we're actually going to get. We have well over a year to wait, which is going to be torture for fans, and also for Domhnall Gleeson, though apparently for different reasons.
