The Russo Brothers Want You To Stay The Heck Off Social Media Because Avengers: Infinity War Is Premiering
We're almost here, folks! More than three and a half years after it was announced as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Three slate, Avengers: Infinity War is only four days away from arriving in theaters (three if you're able to catch a Thursday night screening). However, tonight marks the movie's world premiere in Los Angeles, and because not everybody who's lucky enough to attend will necessarily keep quiet about what they saw, directors Joe and Anthony Russo are suggesting that Marvel fans stay off social media until seeing Infinity War. In a now deleted tweet (they're taking their own advice, the Russo Brothers passed along the following message:
Tonight, at our premiere in Los Angeles, we are screening Avengers: Infinity War in its entirety for the first time ever. If you truly want to avoid any spoilers until you see the film, we recommend you abstain from any social media, or the Internet in general, until you have an opportunity to get to the theater.
This isn't the first time that the Russos have delivered a typed-out message while wearing the Infinity Gauntlet. At the beginning of the month, the brothers asked that those who see Avengers: Infinity War in the next few months to "maintain the same level of secrecy" as those who worked on the movie over the last two years so that everyone can have an "equal experience." In other words, follow the golden rule: if you wouldn't want someone to spoil Infinity War for you, don't do the same to someone else. That's still applicable now, but with Infinity War just about to hit theaters, they advise staying off social media and the internet completely until you've seen the movie. After all, this is a chaotic digital landscape (I'm looking at you, Twitter), so in the Russos' minds, better safe than sorry.
In case you're unable or unwilling to give up your usual digital routine, this is when the mute button comes in handy, particularly for social media. Blocking certain words and hashtags can help reduce the chances of stumbling across spoilers, but make no mistake, that still won't be 100% effective. As for the rest of the internet, speaking from experience, I recommend staying away from the Avengers: Infinity War Wikipedia page until you've seen the movie. The full plot will go up there when you least expect it.
Let's also not forget that even after seeing Avengers: Infinity War, we still have another year to go until Avengers 4 not only concludes Phase Three, but also wrap up this era of the MCU. Granted, we'll have Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel to keep us sated in the meantime, but you can be sure that when walking out of the theater after Infinity War, our heads will be wracked with questions, most of which won't be answered for another 12 months.
Avengers: Infinity War will be available to the masses starting this Friday, April 27. Keep checking back with CinemaBlend for more news concerning this movie and the rest of the MCU. If you're interested in learning what other Marvel movies are in development, look through our handy guide.
If you are looking to avoid The Avengers: Endgame leaked footage and spoilers, you may want to stay off of social media, or at the least, don't read any comments. I recall prior to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens that people were spoiler-bombing comments on Facebook with the death of Han Solo.
